Anyone who does not get their LMS yearbook at the lunch site, can come to the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Horseshoe, M - F from 8:00 - 1:00 for pick up.

Thank you so much for your continued patience and support during the 2019-2020 School Year.  No one could have imagined that when we dismissed classes for Spring Break back on March 13, that it would be the last day at school for our students.  The school staffs greatly miss the face-to-face engagements and interactions with your child(ren).  We know how important school is, not just for learning, but for social aspects as well. 

LDoE is currently working with the Pueblo, Bureau of Indian Education, NM Public Education Department, and other entities to determine a plan to re-open school in August 2020.  Our plan will be sure to address any Social Distancing, Personal Protective Equipment, hygiene, and other requirements.  Our first priority is community safety.  We will communicate information on school re-opening to you as soon as we can, but for sure no later than July 20, 2020.  Other timelines for important communications are listed further down this webpage.

As for the 2019-2020 School Year, please be aware of the following:

  • LMS teachers are reviewing the work provided by the students and providing feedback on that work.
  • LMS report cards were issued at the beginning of May.  Students received a grade of SAT (Satisfactory) or UNSAT (Unsatisfactory).
  • Students who need a % grade instead of SAT/UNSAT should contact the teacher directly.
  • All LMS students are being promoted to the next grade level.
  • Certificates of Transition for 8th grade are being mailed home.
  • Staff will continue to reach out to students during the month of June to connect with students and offer any needed support.  Please let us know if there is anything the school can do to help or support you.
  • Registration packets for the 2020-2021 School Year will be available in July.

At the end of the 2019-2020 School Year, Mr. Trujillo retired.  We would like to thank Mr. Trujillo for his hard work and dedication to the LDoE students and community.  He will be missed.  Recently, the LDoE Board of Education approved a reorganization and Dr. Gurule was hired to lead both the LES and the LMS beginning May 11, 2020.  Please contact Dr. Gurule at h.gurule@lagunaed.net if you have any questions or concerns about LES or LMS.

LDOE Communication Plan

Many of you have posed questions that merit a response from LDOE. In our effort to respond to these questions, we have established a timeline as to when the responses will be available. Many of our responses are contingent upon decisions made by our funding agencies. We will continue to do our best to respond to the questions.

All of the LDOE departments (DEC, LES, LMS, and PFS) are supported by federal program dollars. Each of these federal programs have their own regulations that we must adhere to as part of our service delivery. These federal funders also have a say on how we administer our programs during this time of the Corona Virus Pandemic. We feel confident that we can begin to prepare information for release to the public.

LDOE Administrative Staff

LDOE Staff, Parents, Community Members, and Students,

The Laguna Department of Education has extended the closure of schools and programs through the end of the 2019-2020 school year.  All school events and activities scheduled during the remainder of the school year, including Summer School, are canceled.  As a result of this action, LDOE schools have developed a continuation of education plan for the remainder of the school year. 

LMS will be delivering instructional packets at the regularly scheduled bus stops on Tuesday, April 21st.  We will utilize the two-hour delay time schedule.  The only exception is the Village of Paguate, the instructional packets for LMS students will be delivered by LMS staff on Monday, April 20th using the same schedule as LES.    

For all LDOE employees, your supervisor will be communicating respective work schedules.  Please note that work schedules are subject to change.  Contact your supervisor if you have any questions. 

Information will also be posted on our website, Facebook and marquee board.

LDOE will continue to provide breakfast and lunch to go meals between 9:00 AM and 11 AM on Monday through Friday, April 20th thru May 21st, at the following locations for all students 18 years old and younger: Paguate Recreation Hall, Laguna K'awaika Center, Green Acres Playground, Seama Computer Lab, Casa Blanca and Paraje at the Paraje Recreation Hall, Mesita Computer Lab, and Encinal Recreation Hall. Please encourage your children to go and grab a breakfast and lunch meal to go.  We remind students to leave the premise once they receive their meals, honor the social distancing.  Stay safe.

For the past 10 years, Laguna Middle School, and instructor John Herrera, have taught students to create a traditional drum; from gathering the wood to learning songs and playing the instrument they have made.
